What is AVID

Welcome to the UJHS AVID program's website.  AVID stands for Advancement via Individual Determination. 

 

Upland Jr. High School implemented its first AVID elective class during the 2013-2014 school year and became an AVID certified school in 2016.The AVID program seeks to facilitate students' success in middle school, high school, college, and beyond. All of the amazing students in this elective course underwent a recommendation, application, and an interview process. A select group of students were chosen to be a part of this life-changing elective course.

UJH has six sections of AVID:

• Two traditional 8th grade AVID classes

• 8th grade AVID Excel

• Two traditional 7th grade AVID classes

• 7th grade AVID Excel

 

*AVID Excel changes the trajectory of long-term English language learners (L-TELLs) by accelerating language acquisition, developing literacy, and placing AVID Excel students on the path to high school AVID and college-preparatory coursework.*
